HERMES SoftLab announces a new version of Smart Plug-in (SPI) for Citrix Xen on HP Universe

HERMES SoftLab announces major enhancements to Smart Plug-In for Citrix Xen for HP Operations Manager and HP Business Availability Center

HP Software Universe, Las Vegas, Nevada, June 17th, 2009 – HERMES SoftLab, a member of the ComTrade Group, today announced a new version of their Smart Plug-in (SPI) for Citrix Xen. The SPI for Citrix Xen now integrates HP Operations Manager, HP SiteScope and HP Business Availability Center with Citrix XenApp, XenServer and XenDesktop to enable comprehensive day to day management, monitoring and reporting.

“SPI for Citrix Xen delivers an extensive, power-user grade management solution that clearly demonstrates our commitment to providing solutions which add value to Citrix products,” said Gregor Smrekar, HERMES SoftLab CEO. “By integrating Citrix infrastructure topology, health, and performance information with the HP business service management software, the SPI for Citrix Xen enables IT departments to maintain high service levels and top-notch end-user experiences.”

Organizations that standardized their operations management around HP Operations Manager or HP SiteScope and HP Business Availability Center are now able to equip their staff with out-of-box monitoring knowledge, tools, and reports to handle day-to-day supervision of Citrix XenApp, XenServer, and XenDesktop environments (Citrix Delivery Center). SPI for Citrix Xen has been designed to deliver immediate and long term value to different groups within IT departments: from operations staff and Citrix specialists to IT managers and the CIO.

“Customers reduce costs and improve service availability with comprehensive management capabilities for IT environments,” said Ramin Sayar, senior director of products, Software & Solutions, HP. “The combination of SPI for Citrix Xen and HP business service management solutions helps customers improve the performance and availability of their dynamic infrastructure.”

SPI for Citrix Xen benefits:

Infrastructure availability monitoring: Health, performance, and availability of XenApp, XenServer and XenDesktop infrastructure.

Application availability monitoring: Synthetic application and desktop launch probing ensures application and desktop availability; and issues are quickly identified and root-cause analysis provides comprehensive diagnosis.

End-user latency monitoring: From the beginning of the logon process to user log-off, latency issues can be confirmed and isolated to specific components.

Unified management: Further leverage investments in HP Software, operations personnel, processes, and procedures to extend ITIL and Enterprise Systems Management to the Citrix Xen environment – with no additional consoles required.

Integrated Management: The SPI for Citrix Xen automatically integrates performance and availability information from the Citrix infrastructure with that of the back-end application layers, acting as an operations bridge for different subject matter experts.

SPI for Citrix Xen supports Citrix XenApp, with partial support for XenDesktop; XenServer support will be released in August 2009 and full XenDesktop will be available in Q1 2010. The SPI for Citrix XEN is both an HP Software Certified Smart Plug-in and a verified Citrix Ready solution. Today HERMES SoftLab also announced exciting new extensions to Siebel CRM/Oracle BI SPI and EMC Documentum SPI.
